Favourite product pick of the month

With quarantine taking over our time for a little while, it is now the perfect time and a great opportunity to start taking care of your skin, and figuring out a skin routine that works best for you.

My favourite product of the month is... the Hey Gorgeous Banish and Repair Cleanser!

Cleansing your face is a crucial part of your skin routine, as it removes any makeup, pollutants and dirt that has been sitting on your face throughout the day, along with prepping your skin so that it can gain maximum benefit from the rest of your skin routine.

The Hey Gorgeous Banish and Repair serum is an oil based cleanser that is aimed at reducing and preventing breakouts and clearing up blemished skin. This has definitely been a firm favourite of mine as part of my routine, and I have definitely noticed my skin improving whilst using it. Hey Gorgeous is an amazing brand that focuses on products that are affordable, sustainably sourced, and include natural ingredients (what's more to love!?).

This is my personal current favourite cleanser, but Hey Gorgeous have a wide variety of other cleansers suited for all skin types which you can view here.

Tips: To help get you started with Beginner Sewing ♡

As exciting as the prospect of sewing and being able to make your own clothing/ creative items are, it can still be pretty daunting at the same time. Here are 5 tips to get you started on your sewing journey that will help you to become more confident in your abilities and bring more ease to the craft.

The first step to help getting yourself started is to learn more about your sewing machine. Read the manual that comes with your machine and try to gain a basic understanding about how it works, how to thread it, and the purpose of the various different parts that come with your machine. You can also look for tutorials on youtube if you are more of a visual and audio learner.

Once you have figured out how to thread your machine and understand how it works, you can start to practice a few basic sewing techniques. Get off-cuts of fabrics and use these to practice on. Get used to the feel of sewing, the different stitches you can use, and how to sew different techniques such as pleats and darts. Understanding and knowing about the different types of fabric that exist will help you a lot. Certain fabrics work for certain patterns, whilst others do not, so it is very important that you know what to look or ask for. Some of the most difficult fabrics to work with are: Silk, satin, stretch knits, chiffon, organza, leather and denim. As a beginner I suggest you stay away from these until you are more comfortable with sewing, as it will lead to a lot of frustration and make your project that much more difficult. Learning important sewing terminology will enhance your understanding of what is being asked of you when you are reading a pattern or instructions. You don't want to end up doing the wrong thing by mistaking your terminology and having to unpick all of your hard work (trust me!). Click here to brush up on your sewing terminology by Colette.

I know how tempting it is to want to choose an extravagant garment pattern and want to challenge yourself, but rather tackle these challenges when you have a better understanding of how to do it. Rather start off with the basics and ease your way up. Simple doesn't always mean boring though, there are many great basic patterns that can end up making great final products. 2020: Im back! ♡

Its 2020 and I am finally back to blogging and giving my full attention to Pabrica Dot again ♡

It has been a busy past few years since starting this blog - with finishing school, studying my BCOM degree and BCOM honours (which admittedly made me struggle to put enough focus on blogging), but between achieving these things, I have continued to grow my love for fashion, beauty and sewing as my creative outlet. 

The world is crazy right now and it is so important to focus on doing what you love and pursue it, so I am incredibly happy to finally have the time to sit down and blog again.

2017 New Things!

I'm back!

It has been a while since I last posted about my fashion journey (sorry!), but I am super excited to start writing on this blog again. After finishing a beginners sewing course last year, I feel like I have found a passion stonger than ever for the industry. 

When you actually start making your own clothing, you really start to appreciate everything that goes behind fashion more. 

This year I will be partaking in an advanced sewing class to build up on my skills and to hopefully have the process of sewing turn into 'second nature', along with being able to share some little tips and tricks along the way with all of you. 

First class starts this Saturday and I can't wait to share everything about it!

Whats next...Crop Tops!

I have always had a love for any sort of cropped top- they can make your outfit cute, preppy, sassy and edgy along with many other styles.. and I have more crop tops in my wardrobe than I'd care to admit...

BUT

You can never have enough clothes right? ;) So, I have decided to choose a crop top pattern to sew in sewing class next week *yay*.

The reason that I chose this on my wish list is because I love the lines on the dress and how it compliments ones figure whilst making your waist look smaller through optical illusion. I think it has been named 'good looking' for a reason..

Outfit of the Day: street style

For todays Outfit of the day I went for a street style look.

It was a hot day with a little bit of a breeze, so I paired a little crop top with high-waisted shorts and a denim wrap around shirt (these are useful to wrap around your waist in case it gets cold- they also make a simple outfit with shorts and a top look super stylish.)

Making my own leggings

Finally I have taken up sewing classes again and I am now officially hooked.

It has always been my dream to start making my own clothing and I am now finally getting there..

Sewing is such a therapeutic art when you finally get the hang of it and I really suggest (if you enjoy clothing or being crafty) that if you need a new hobby, take a sewing class when you have free time- you won't regret it.

So, as a result of falling in love with sewing, I decided to make my own pair of icy blue high-waisted leggings today...here are a few pictures of the steps taken to make my leggings:

Always use a fabric that is nice and stretchy when making leggings.

Here is a picture of my chosen pattern pinned next to the salvage of the fabric.

Before you start sewing, always make sure you have a thread that matches the colour of your chosen fabric. Also after cutting out your pattern you can use the scraps/ leftovers of your fabric to practice sewing a few stitches before you begin sewing your actual product.

Cyborg Couture Makeup

One of the greatest parts of being a makeup artist is being able to change a blank face into something different- whether it be crazy, weird, beautiful or accentuating ones natural beauty...

This time around I was lucky enough to go full out CRAZY with my makeup skills as I was asked to do makeup for a cyborg/ futuristic couture shoot.

I had a tremendous amount of fun doing these makeup looks and would love to show you all some 'behind the scenes' of this crazy shoot.

QUICK TIP!

When doing someone else's makeup- always make sure you are presentable (wear professional clothing etc) & also there is no harm in going to some extra effort in doing your own makeup so that you show your professionalism and show off your skills so that the client will feel more at ease in that you know what you are doing when you do their makeup.
